ASPEN
For Studio Bonarchi, The Base Hotel is a landmark in our progression since it is our very first project, a collaboration with DZA architects, that is taking place in the US.
Furthermore, it presented as with the extra challenge of designing a capsule hotel, more notably so since it wasn’t to be realized as part of our familiar Mediterranean landscapes.
Since it is located in Aspen Colorado, our goal was to create a distinctive identity for this project, bringing in the two most individualistic characteristics – Aspen’s particular allure as a skiing resort destination along with the wealth of the folklore associated with the mines, handed down to the community as an important part of Aspen’s heritage.
As per our custom, a holistic approach was our take on this collaboration. Everything spanning from the reception desk the the bedside tables in the rooms has been customly designed.
Concerning the materials, a strong concept of duality is evident throughout the public spaces as much as in the rooms. Wooden linings and volumes of stone in large proportions blend seemingly with one another in a constant dialogue. Details of black iron and brass reflect upon Aspen’s mining tradition for over one hundred years.
